Zeleros entrusts Airbus to accelerate the development of a zero-emission hyperloop propulsion system

Valencia/Munich, 1st Feb 2021.

Zeleros has entrusted Airbus to accelerate the development of a zero-emission propulsion system for hyperloop, a new means of transport that can achieve speeds up to 1000 km/h with high energy efficiency.

The propulsion system, a core element of Zeleros’ vehicle, is key to achieving hyperloop’s needed scalability for global deployment. The fact that the propulsion system is integrated in the vehicle, not in the infrastructure, brings an important advantage in terms of infrastructure costs, the critical factor when it comes to building hyperloop corridors.

Using existing aviation technologies and working at the same airplane pressure conditions enables Zeleros to shrink development timeframes and to use existing safety frameworks. Zeleros’ vehicle can use existing regulations, as aviation operations have been thought for mass transportation, while space regulations are thought for singular missions and low passenger capacities.

In line with its sustainability and innovation efforts, Airbus is set to explore new pathways for disruptive mobility with Zeleros Hyperloop – leveraging the knowledge gained through the electric flight programme. The development is also aligned with future aviation decarbonisation plans.

With hyperloop being included on the European Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the world’s first standardisation committee launched in Brussels, and the plans to build a European Hyperloop Development Center in Spain, this announcement paves the way to a sustainable future in mobility.
